birmingham masterplan submitted
We are pleased to announce that the planning application for this new large-scale residential led regeneration scheme in Birmingham has now been submitted.
The 6-acre site, bordering the Grand Union Canal, is a 15-minute walk from Birmingham city centre and currently home to a National Express bus garage. It lies at the heart of the Digbeth regeneration area, which is fast emerging as Birmingham’s leading creative and cultural quarter.
shedkm have produced a series of design codes to sit alongside the masterplan and a detailed application to help ensure future development creates a neighbourhood that both references the robust materiality of the past whilst supporting a new community through bold architecture.
The innovative living typologies include up to 1,250 new apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms, as well as up to 450 co-living homes and 950 student apartments.
New homes, creative workspaces and a diverse mix of leisure and retail amenities will be linked by over 2 acres of public realm, including 200 metres of canal frontage. The authentic and characterful designs for the mix of new buildings and public realm reﬂect the long industrial heritage of the historic neighbourhood.
