uptown

three ascending blocks with light and spacious apartments

Uptown comprises one- and two-bed apartments contained in ascending blocks topped with stepped roof gardens that form a fifth elevation providing amenity space for residents and affording views to Salford and Greater Manchester. The stepped form responds to a change in scale and context, mediating between two- and three-storey town houses and a 44-storey tower.

Each building shares a similar plan, organised around a core that braces the volumetric modules and allows units to be dual or triple aspect. The project features a hybrid approach utilising Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), incorporating off-site fabrication techniques. The primary modules are constructed using a combination of cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor/wall cassettes and posi-joist ceiling systems, integrated within a steel outer frame forming the principal external envelope.
