Ian is a Director of shedkm’s Liverpool studio, alongside Mark Sidebotham, and has been with the practice for over 20 years. He advocates the wider benefits of high-quality design.
As a regeneration and housing specialist, and an expert in innovation and MMC, Ian has led retrofit projects and residential masterplans in major UK towns and cities including Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Staffordshire.
Ian has significant experience working with Listed and heritage buildings, and designing modern buildings in sensitive urban or natural contexts, including Rockmount – a modernist house shortlisted for the RIBA Manser Medal.
Ian has frequently presented shedkm’s work at universities and industry events. He has also served as a RIBA Awards judge and Professional Practice Examiner. Since shedkm became employee-owned in 2022, Ian has chaired the Board of Trustees responsible for the overall governance of the practice.
