crusader wins two riba north west awards

Our renovation of Crusader mill in Manchester, for social impact developers Capital&Centric, has won the overall 2024 RIBA North West Award and Conservation Award.

For 50 years the RIBA Awards have championed and celebrated the best architecture in the UK and around the world. Successful projects reflect changes and innovations in architecture, but at their core display a commitment to designing and developing buildings and spaces for the improvement and enhancement of people’s lives.

Crusader, previously a part of Manchester’s thriving textile industry, dates from the late 1840s and included a number of Listed mill buildings. Today it’s home to high-quality modern apartments and a green, communal courtyard space.

Judges said: “It is exemplary not only in the way the architect has conceived its layout and details, but also in terms of a developer’s idea to use the project as a catalyst for changing a wider, previously run-down urban area. The overall effect celebrates the existing buildings’ character and minimises invasive penetrations through historic structure, while introducing bold, contemporary circulation that creates a characterful courtyard space.”

Congratulations to the whole collaborative team! Read the write up of Crusader on the RIBA Journal here.
