crusader reaches riba north west awards shortlist

Our renovation of Crusader mill in Manchester, for social impact developers Capital&Centric, will be visited by a jury panel, before the winners announcement later this year.

For 50 years the RIBA Awards have championed and celebrated the best architecture in the UK and around the world. Successful projects reflect changes and innovations in architecture, but at their core display a commitment to designing and developing buildings and spaces for the improvement and enhancement of people’s lives.

Crusader, previously a part of Manchester’s thriving textile industry, dates from the late 1840s and included a number of Listed mill buildings. Today it’s home to high-quality modern apartments and a green, communal courtyard space.

This year’s shortlist reflects growing ambition to build a northern powerhouse… From the reinvention of a 200-year-old cotton mill into a residential community [Crusader], to the sensitive retrofit of an iconic music hall which laid abandoned for years, these projects are underpinned by a desire to restore and celebrate the industrial character of the north and deliver buildings which enhance people’s lives.

Good luck to the whole collaborative team!
