Last week, our regeneration of Minto + Turner and Minshull Warehouse – the listed buildings at Kampus in Manchester won two Housing Design Awards. We scooped awards for ‘Building with Nature’, for our collaboration on the public realm and planting with Exterior Architecture and were also named the 2022 ‘Winner of Winners’.
The shedkm teamed picked up the award, at the ceremony held at Kampus, with collaborators ASDL – the joint development team on the overall Kampus scheme, including HBD and Capital&Centric.
Kampus is a new residential garden community close to Manchester Piccadilly Station, which completed last year. The development comprises several new buildings alongside our sensitively refurbished historic buildings, consolidating the rich built heritage of the area. Its central, lush garden by Exterior Architecture significantly contributes to the public realm of the scheme. A village hall for events and community groups sits alongside the green space, as well as a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars.
The Housing Design Awards launched in 1948 to reward better municipal post-war rebuilding, then opened up to market sale homes in 1960. They are the only awards promoted by all five major professional institutions – RICS, RIBA, RTPI, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and their purpose is to showcase the best housing ideas to the government and industry.
shedkm have a long-standing history with the Housing Design Awards – previously winning 14 various awards since 1999 – for Port Loop, Inholm, New Islington, Botanic, Tribeca, Preston Point and Collegiate. This is our second time winning an overall ‘Winner of Winners’ award, after we took it home for Chimney Pot Park in Salford in 2008.
Congratulations to the whole collaborative team for this important recognition!
